ny, its co-producer Alibaba Pictures Group, the movie unit of the world’s largest e-com

merce company, claimed to be the first internet film company to co-produce an Oscars winning movie.

Jack Ma, chairman of Alibaba Group, said a good movie does not necessarily have to cost

a lot, nor tell an earth-shattering story, according to the Paper, which also said Ma watchedGreen Bo

resident Yu Dong in a Beijing cinema on Monday, though the film will not be officially screened in China until March 1.

He said a good movie is the one which is made with passion and can brin

The country will also push for high-quality developmen

of the sector with a focus on improving financial services and forestalling financial risks.

Opening-up of China’s financial factor has sped up, as the country re

moved foreign ownership caps of banks and financial asset management firms last year.

Richard Turnill, global chief investment strategist of BlackRock, an American global investment man

agement corporation, is also positive on China’s stocks market, according to the Barron’s report.

Turnill said stronger inflows into Chinese A-shares, and China’s efforts to boost credit growth and sti

mulate its economy are also helpful to a bullish stock market.

However, selectivity of stocks is needed, Turnill said, adding that BlackRock favors b

rokers and companies related to the domestic consumer that can benefit from the efforts to stimulate growth locally.

Major securities traders in China, such as the Merchants Securities, CITIC Securities, and Fo

under Securities are all optimistic about China’s stocks market this year, according to a report from finance.sina.com.

Trade talks expected to finalize dealNG SHUIYU,ZHONG NA

China and the United States are expected to come to an agreement soon over trade frictions, analysts said, as the negotiating teams a

re reported to be discussing the wording of an accord and considering applying the brakes to their tariff standoff.

They made the prediction after Chinese and US officials said there had been concrete p

rogress on multiple issues in the latest round of trade talks in Washington.

During the latest talks, held from Thursday to Sunday in Washington, the seventh round since February of last year, th

e two sides focused on the text of an agreement, the Chinese delegation said, according to a Xinhua News Agency report.

The negotiators also had made substantial progress on such specific issues as technology transfers, protection of i

ntellectual property rights, nontariff barriers, the service industry, agriculture and exchange rates, the delegation said.

On the basis of the latest progress, the two sides are expected to continue their work

into the next stage, in accordance with the instructions of the two countries’ top leaders, according to Xinhua.

The same tactic has also been used within the United State

said Van Jackson, a former Defense Department official in the Obama administration.

”Historically, there have been many — I know of half a dozen instances myself personally — where senior North Korean officials were brought around and shown what capi

talist industrialism looks like. They were shown what the stock market floor looks like on the New York Stock Exchange, or they were brought out to so

me tech lab in Silicon Valley,” said Jackson, author of “On the Brink: Trump, Kim, and the Threat of Nuclear War.”

”We’ve shown them what capitalism looks like … the idea that they will see something in Vietn

am physically that triggers something different than what we’ve shown them before is kind of non

sense.”There’s something for both Washington and Pyongyang to like when studying the US-Vietnam relationship.

For North Korea, it’s an example of a single-party communist country that reformed its economy without democr

atizing. For the United States, it’s an example of how to redefine a relationship and make a buck at the same time.

In 1995 — the year Hanoi and Washington normalized relations — US exports to and imports from Vietnam were

worth just $252 million and $199 million respectively. However in the first 11 months of 2018, the US exported more th

an $8 billion worth of goods to Vietnam and imported goods worth $45 billion, according to US Census figures.

Rudolph, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler introduced Sunday’s

telecast, following Queen and Adam Lambert’s opening performance of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Cham

pions.” The “Saturday Night Live” alums riffed off the messy build-up to this year’s awards.

An abundance of drama surrounded the build-up to this year’s Osca

rs, even before getting around to the nailbiting best-picture finish.

The contenders reflected the gamut of an evolving movie industry, with “Roma” representing Netflix’s arrival in mo

vies, after the streaming service’s model-bending impact on the TV business.

On the flip side, “Black Panther” embodied the blockbusters upon which the studios have come to rely, and the th

ird-highest-grossing US release of all time at $700 million, nearly doubling that total worldwide.

A number of individual nominees registered breakthroughs for women and people of color, only

a few years after lack of diversity among the acting categories birthed the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag.

Xi stresses role of finance in serving real economyBEIJING

general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, underscored that China should deepen supply-side

structural reform in the financial sector and strengthen the sector’s ability to serve the real economy.

Xi made the remarks when presiding over a group study session of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau Friday afternoon.

The country should keep a fine balance between maintaining growth and forestalling risks and deal with risks in key areas

in a targeted and effective manner, he said, adding that China should deepen opening-up of the financial sector.

Xie Duo, Party secretary and chairman of Silk Road Fund Co., Ltd, briefed on the issue and made suggestions.

Xi pointed out that finance is a core competitiveness of a country, financial security is an im

portant part of national security, and the financial system is a major fundamental system in the process of economic and social development.

In their article, the Conservative ministers warned that econom

national security, and peace in Northern Ireland would be compromised in the case of a no-d

eal Brexit, and added the scenario would risk inflaming the nationalist sentiment in Scotland.

”Far from Brexit resulting in a newly independent United Kingdom, stepping boldly into t

he wider world, crashing out on March 29 would see us poorer, less secure and potentially splitting up,” they write.

Rudd, Clark and Gauke also cautioned members of the European Research Gro

up (ERG), a Parliamentary alliance whose members advocate for a no-deal Brexit and have previously voted do

wn May’s deal, that their lack of cooperation would be responsible for a postponement in the Brexit process.

”It is time that many of our Conservative parliamentary colleagues in the ERG recognized that Parliament will stop a disastrous No Deal Brexit on Mar

ch 29. If that happens, they will have no one to blame but themselves for delaying Brexit,” they wrote.

Nigeria elections: Explosions heard hours before preside

Multiple bomb blasts rocked the northern Nigerian city of Maiduguri just hours before presidential polls opened Saturday.

The explosions happened at a camp for internally displaced refugees at around 5 a.m. local

time Saturday, Nigerian army spokesman Onyeama Nwachukwu told CNN. There were no reports of any deaths or injuries.

”There was an attack this morning at the camp by the militants, but the military h

as suppressed it at the moment,” Nwachukwu said, adding that the army was still assessing the situation.

Journalist Simpa Samson told CNN the militants targeted the Teacher’s Village camp in Maiduguri, the capital of Nigeria’s

Borno state.”The military secured the place almost immediately and has stopped our cameraman from fil

ming, no one was hurt because the bombs landed outside the premises,” Samson told CNN.

Security is often a concern in Maiduguri, a frequent target of terror group

Boko Haram. The city also has a large population of internally displaced refugees.

The blasts came as Nigerians prepared to cast their ballots Saturday, a week after the country’s presidential and parliamentary elections were une

xpectedly postponed. It was the third consecutive vote to be delayed in Africa’s largest democracy.

Because of sanctions, Iran’s health sector is struggling to

keep up with soaring prices of medications and medical instruments, doctors tell CNN.

European banks, fearing secondary US penalties, are reluctant to do business with Iranian companies even those not blacklisted b

y the US. Medical companies have had to resort to paying intermediaries exorbitant sums to secure ne

eded supplies, including imported medicines and medical instruments which have more than tripled in value du

ring Iran’s rapidly dropping currency, health professionals explain.Sanctions is the first problem in our country and in ou

r system. We can’t transfer the money and make the preparations for surgery. It’s a big problem for us,” says Dr. Mo

hammad Hassan Bani Asad, managing director of the Gandhi Hotel Hospital. “We have the procedures, but we don’t hav

e the instruments. It is very difficult for patients and maybe leads to death of some patients.”

Though most of Iran’s medicines are domestically manufactured, much of the primary materials, m

any of them imported, are in short supply. And while the state provides universal healthcare, so

me of the treatment needed for critical cases cannot be covered by state insurance.

Threatened with ‘acid, rape, abuse’: Protesting Iran’s compulsory hijab law

Video of the incident showed people honking their car horns in apparent protest. A man is

heard shouting “Let her go!” as a group of people surround the van. The sound of gunshots is then heard.

The headscarf, or the hijab, has been a mandatory part of women’s dress in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution led to clerical rule of the country.

But in recent years, some women have mounted opposition to headscarf rules by stagi

ng sporadic street demonstrations, some of which have gone viral on social media.

Many women have also observed the dress rules more loosely in recent years. While signs instructing women to wear hijab ad

orn the walls of nearly every shop and restaurant, many wear short scarves which only slightly cover their heads.
